The SOWA Neighborhood

SoWa, or the “South of Washington Street” neighborhood is a section of the South End spanning east to west, from Massachusetts Avenue to Herald Street, and north to south, from Washington Street to Albany Street.

What was once known as the mill and warehouse district where merchandise was created, stored, and shipped, has since seen a complete overhaul of redevelopments and changing use. Today SoWa, is a highly desirable neighborhood known for numerous galleries, design studios, one-of-a-kind boutique shops, restaurants, the Whole Foods Market, and residential condos. Additional attractions include special event days known as First Fridays and Sowa Sundays.
